Addressing a youth convention here on Sunday, the Punjab Assembly speaker said the youth had demonstrated through their large gatherings that they remain at the forefront of the country’s future. He said the aspirations of young people for change and employment must be addressed through concrete opportunities.
Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan said that after the establishment of a university in the area, local youth had raised important questions about employment and jobs. He maintained that providing jobs, governing, building roads and establishing universities are all matters concerning the people, while elected representatives must remain accountable for how public funds are used.
He identified education as Pakistan’s biggest challenge, saying the country must improve its education system and ensure that no child remains out of school. He said around 25 million children are currently out of school and called for collective efforts to strengthen both education and healthcare.

He added that the Punjab government is making significant investments in the health sector. Speaking about national security, the speaker said the country’s fight against terrorism is continuing and that young people stand with the Pakistan Army.
He paid tribute to soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, saying their sacrifices are helping make the country safer. He said Pakistan faces multiple challenges and alleged that hostile forces are targeting innocent civilians and attempting to undermine the country.
He stressed that such challenges should not weaken national morale. Commenting on political affairs, Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan said allegations of election rigging continue to dominate political discourse, while he pointed to development projects undertaken by the current government.
He claimed that Punjab had never previously witnessed development spending on such a scale. The speaker also announced plans to develop Khadian as a university town and said major infrastructure and education projects were being planned for the area.
He said the prime minister was expected to visit the area for the groundbreaking of a motorway project, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was expected to lay the foundation stone of the university.
He further announced that a youth empowerment programme would be introduced and that youth conventions would also be held in Ganda Singh, Kot Radha Kishan and other areas. The programme, he said, would eventually extend to the union-council level.
Calling youth the country’s greatest asset, Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan said it was the government’s responsibility to provide them with opportunities and support their development. He urged elected representatives and citizens alike to contribute to social improvement, saying progress would come when public representatives actively addressed the problems of their constituencies.
He added that the country’s politics, government and state ultimately belong to its youth.
