SC rejects second plea for early hearing of Imran’s hospital transfer contempt case

September 16. The sources said cases were fixed for hearing court’s policy, with 94 contempt petitions already pending. They added that Uzma’s request for an immediate hearing could therefore not be accepted.

Dr Uzma filed the second application before the SC on August 27, seeking an urgent hearing of her contempt petition against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other respondents over the alleged failure to implement the court’s. August 18 order.

The order had directed that Imran undergo medical examination and receive treatment at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. In her application seeking an early fixation of the contempt matter, Uzma urged the SC to schedule the case during the week or at the earliest possible date the following week, rather than September 16.
She warned that further delay could cause “serious and irreparable harm” to Imran. “The subject matter of the petition concerns the life, health, dignity and physical well-being of Mr Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi, a national hero and a former prime minister, whose health is deteriorating and whose life is stated to be in jeopardy,” the application stated.

According to SC's August 18 order, the apex courtdirectedthat Imran be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment for the next few days and instructed the government to arrange weekly meetings between him and his family.
However, on August 21, the PTI founder was taken to PIMS for a medical examination in the early hours of the morning and returned to Adiala jail after doctors declared him "medically fit". Information Minister Attaullah Tararsaid.
Imran was taken to the government-run facility because of the security situation created by PTI workers outside and on the way to Shifa International Hospital. On August 22, PTIfiled a contempt of court petitionin the SC over the alleged violation of the court’s order concerning Imran's transfer to Shifa International Hospital.
The petition was filed by Dr Uzma, lawyer Uzair Bhandari and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja. Three days later, PTI resubmitted the petition after addressing objections raised by the SC registrar while the SC fixed the hearing for the petition on September 16.
