RRAWALPINDI —Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is visiting Tehran, Iran for an official visit, said Inter Services Public Relations in a statement on Monday.

Earlier, Iranian officials said Tehran is hosting senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, members of the Makkah defence pact, on Monday for discussions on regional security, the situation in Palestine and Lebanon, and efforts to ease tensions across the region, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the meeting had been discussed during Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Iran.

He added that the proposal for a four-country meeting had been put forward by the Pakistani army chief, following which Tehran agreed to host the gathering. Baghaei said the talks would focus on developments in Palestine, Lebanon and the wider region, stressing the importance of building trust among regional countries.

Iranian officials confirmed that Field Marshal Asim Munir, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin were expected to travel to Tehran for the meeting. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said Prince Khalid bin Salman would lead the Saudi delegation.

Representatives of countries that are members of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement are expected to meet Iranian officials as part of the gathering. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Mohsen Rezaei, head of the Supreme National Security Council, are also expected to participate.

Iranian officials said cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Iran could contribute to regional security. The meeting is being held amid continuing tensions, with participants expected to emphasise resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Separately, a Qatari mediation delegation has arrived in Tehran to convey demands from US President Donald Trump to Iranian officials. A Qatari broadcaster reported that Iran was pressing for the restoration of its frozen assets and an end to the naval blockade imposed on the country.
