Araghchi says Oman talks to focus on new maritime route through Strait of Hormuz

In an interview with an Arab television channel, Araghchi stressed that the agreement with Oman should not be interpreted as meaning that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian foreign minister said the United States would first need to comply with the memorandum of understanding reached in Islamabad before the Strait could be reopened.
Araghchi further said responsibility for maintaining security and stability in the region rested solely with countries in the region. The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital waterway linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the wider Arabian Sea. Any disruption to maritime traffic through the strait could have significant implications for global energy markets and international shipping.
