The two foreign ministers spoke by telephone and also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including issues of mutual interest at multilateral forums,. The Foreign Office said the discussion also covered implementation of understandings reached during the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee of the Makkah Defence Agreement, held in Istanbul on Aug 31.

Pk)September 6, 2026Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the joint defence agreement on Aug 7 in Makkah. Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three member states is to be treated as an attack against all.
The agreement was signed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a summit at Al-Safa Palace. The alliance held its inaugural committee meeting in Istanbul on Aug 31, with the three countries represented by their respective foreign ministers.
Pakistan has previously said the defence arrangement remains open to other countries in the region that are willing to adhere to its core principles.
