World leaders fall ill after attending BRICS summit in India

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also fell ill after returning home from the BRICS leaders’ summit in New Delhi. A statement from his office said Ramaphosa returned to South Africa following the summit and was advised by his medical team to rest.

The reports have prompted scrutiny of India’s hosting of the international gathering, with criticism also directed at alleged administrative shortcomings and inadequate arrangements. The Independent report further claimed that Hindu nationalist elements were visible during the summit dinner, including in connection with the meat-free menu served to participating leaders.
The reports have drawn renewed attention to the organisation and management of the BRICS summit.
