LLONDON —Following Pakistan’s defeat in the Lord’s Test, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to send Test opener Imam-ul-Haq back to Pakistan on the first available flight from London, while also ordering a high-level investigation into his calf injury,.
The 30-year-old Imam-ul-Haq complained of discomfort in his calf on the first day of the Lord’s Test and subsequently did not bat in Pakistan’s second innings after appearing in the team’s first innings. The PCB had earlier confirmed that Imam sustained a strain to his left calf while fielding on the opening day, with scans showing a low-grade injury.
However, speculation has emerged in the media regarding Imam-ul-Haq’s injury, with claims that the opener may not have suffered an actual injury and had allegedly misrepresented his condition. Some former cricketers have also described Imam-ul-Haq’s injury as fake, further intensifying the controversy surrounding the Pakistan opener.

Against this backdrop, the PCB has now decided to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the calf problem Imam experienced during the Lord’s Test and launch a full investigation into the matter. In the past as well, several PCB officials had reportedly expressed reservations over matters related to Imam-ul-Haq’s injuries.
The decision to investigate the injury comes after England defeated Pakistan by 194 runs at Lord’s to take a 2-0 lead in the Test series. It remains to be seen what conclusion the PCB-level inquiry into the Test opener will reach and what action, if any, may follow.
