Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz pledges support for Okara development projects

The delegation included several prominent representatives, namely Ashiq Hussain Shah, Javed Alauddin Sajid, Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain Chhichhar, Noor-ul-Amin Wattoo, Ali Abbas, Mian Yawar Zaman, Mian Muhammad Munir, and Ghulam Raza.

During the session, the Chief Minister emphasized the necessity of maintaining a robust and consistent connection with the public, urging the lawmakers to act as effective intermediaries in addressing community grievances. She reaffirmed her administration's commitment to providing full cooperation to the Okara representatives, ensuring that the provincial government remains responsive to the needs of the district.

The discussion highlighted several flagship government projects that have recently gained traction in the region, with the lawmakers expressing strong support for the provincial administration's current trajectory. A significant portion of the dialogue focused on the expansion of the Safe City network, which has now been integrated across 41 districts and two tehsils.

The MPAs lauded this initiative, alongside enhanced police operations, as a critical factor in the observed decline of crime rates across Punjab. Furthermore, the delegation commended the government for infrastructure improvements, specifically citing the construction and rehabilitation of the bypass road connecting to Okara’s GT Road.

The introduction of the electrobus service was also a major point of praise. Lawmakers noted that these buses are currently facilitating travel from the General Bus Stand to key locations including Akhtarabad, Karmanwala, Adda Kissan, and Okara University.

They highlighted that the provision of free travel for students, women, and senior citizens has been particularly well-received by the public, serving as a model for inclusive urban transport.

Beyond transportation and security, the discussion touched upon broader social welfare programs, including the 'Apni Chhat Apna Ghar' housing scheme and the 'Kisan Card' initiative, both of which were identified by the MPAs as highly popular among the local population.

In response to the feedback, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz articulated her vision for the province, stating that her government is focused on accelerating the completion of public welfare projects within a condensed timeframe.

She highlighted the 'Safa Punjab' program as a cornerstone of her administration's efforts to standardize cleanliness and sanitation services across both urban centers and rural villages without discrimination. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction regarding the reported improvements in the quality of life for residents in Okara.

She underscored that a primary objective of her current policy framework is to bridge the developmental divide between the provincial capital, Lahore, and less-developed districts. By prioritizing infrastructure and public services in regions like Okara, the government aims to ensure equitable growth.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister confirmed that plans are already in motion to expand the electrobus network further, with the ultimate goal of connecting more cities and remote villages across the province to modern, efficient transit systems.

This meeting reflects a broader administrative strategy to decentralize development efforts and ensure that provincial governance is felt directly at the constituency level, fostering a more integrated approach to public service delivery throughout Punjab.
