IISLAMABAD —Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has strongly condemned the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling it a serious political mistake and an undemocratic move that the public would never accept. In a statement, Barrister Gohar said PTI strongly opposed and rejected the move, describing it as deeply concerning.

He said the people would never accept measures that violated their rights. He said the mandate of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was their constitutional and legal right. Ignoring that mandate, undermining provincial autonomy and creating confrontation between the federation and the province could neither restore peace nor bring stability, he added.

The PTI chairman said there was no disagreement over the need to eliminate terrorism, but tackling the menace was only possible through national unity and a joint strategy. He said the federation could not be strengthened by weakening the provinces.

Centre imposes emergency, governor's rule in KPHe added that problems could not be resolved through force, confrontation or extraordinary measures, but required political wisdom, constitutional supremacy, meaningful dialogue and practical steps. Barrister Gohar said PTI would raise its voice on every constitutional, legal and democratic forum to protect the public mandate, provincial autonomy, and constitutional and democratic rights.

Strong provinces, he said, were the foundation of a strong federation, while the rule of the Constitution was the guarantee of a strong Pakistan. The PTI chairman said there was still time to reverse the decision within a few days.

He urged the federal government to set aside its ego, understand ground realities, accept legitimate demands and respect public sentiment. He warned that the country should be protected from further political and economic damage and from setbacks to the democratic process.

Barrister Gohar further said reviewing political decisions was not a sign of weakness but an act of wisdom in the national interest, warning that failure to reconsider the decision could lead to serious consequences.
