Speaking to the media at PIMS, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said there was no water in the fire tanks, doctors were unavailable and gates were closed at the hospital when the incident occurred.

“We have not come here to do politics, but it is our responsibility to ask questions about the incident,” she said, adding that the minister responsible should resign voluntarily. PPP leader Nayyar Bukhari said removing a single secretary from office was not enough, arguing that the federal health ministry had failed to properly manage even two hospitals.

He questioned how the ministry could manage hospitals across the country if it could not manage two hospitals, and demanded that the Ministry of Health be held accountable for the incident. Bukhari said the ministry should have monitored the performance and administrative arrangements of the PIMS management.
