Rangers soldier Shah Nawaz sustained a bullet wound to the chest and was martyred, while Lance Naik Bilal suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was seriously injured.
Shah Nawaz, who was martyred in the attack, belonged to Khairpur, Sindh., the clearance operation was launched following strong demands from local residents to reopen blocked roads amid severe difficulties in transportation and shortages of food supplies. Security experts described the use of modern weapons and explosives against security personnel as a planned act of terrorism.
They said the sacrifices of security forces underscored the need to establish and protect the writ of the state, adding that immediate, strict and indiscriminate legal action against armed groups involved in attacks on state institutions was essential.
