IISLAMABAD Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi has announced that judicial benches will also sit in the evening to hear cases seeking early hearings and help reduce the backlog of pending cases.

Addressing a full court meeting, CJP Yahya Afridi said the policy for fixing cases had been placed online and that no case was now fixed even on his personal direction. The chief justice rejected the perception that judges take three months of leave, saying judges take only one month’s leave during a three-month period.

He said as many as 75 cases had been fixed before a single bench on one day. The case-fixing policy is available on the court’s website, while two officers recheck cases included in the cause list.
