The Sony Pictures production focuses on Frances Haugen, the former Facebook employee whose 2021 disclosures exposed internal company research and intensified scrutiny of the social media giant.
Mikey Madison plays Haugen, while Jeremy Strong portrays Zuckerberg., Strong's performance presents Zuckerberg as a highly controlled and unsympathetic figure, marking a sharp departure from Jesse Eisenberg's more youthful interpretation of the Meta founder in The Social Network. The film depicts internal debates over platform policies, engagement and the consequences of decisions made by Facebook executives.
The project also drew attention through an unusual promotional campaign on Instagram. The states that Zuckerberg will love The Social Reckoning before adding a reference to Instagram's approach to advertising fact checking. The campaign deliberately connects the film's marketing with one of its central themes.
