    RIYADH/

SANNA —Yemen's Houthi media said on Sunday that Saudi airstrikes had targeted Hodeidah, a strategic port under Houthi control, hours after the Saudi-led coalition said it had carried out a military operation to "neutralise vital resources" used by the Houthi group to support its war effort.

The Houthi-aligned Al-Masirah TV said Saudi forces had launched two airstrikes on Ras Issa port, a major oil and fuel terminal on the Red Sea coast, approximately 55 kilometres north of Hodeidah city in Hodeidah Governorate. Iran's state-run IRNA agency said a strike on an industrial complex in Saudi Arabia's Dammam had caused a huge fire on Sunday.

"A Yemeni strike hit an industrial complex in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, sparking a large fire at the facility," IRNA said in a post on X.The Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed a drone launched by the Houthis towards the kingdom's southern region.

Residents also reported civil defence alerts warning of potential danger in Abha and Khamis Mushait for a brief period. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said in a statement that the operation to neutralise Houthi resources had taken place in the morning, following continued Houthi attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

The coalition's joint forces command had monitored the Houthis' "continued use of vital resources to support their war effort and bolster their military capabilities, especially ballistic missiles and drones", he said. Al-Maliki did not identify the targeted locations or specify the nature of the resources.

In Geneva, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said more than 300,000 people had fled their homes in western Yemen because of intensifying fighting in the country. "Almost all were displaced in the last two months, and they urgently need shelter, food, clean water and health care," it said.

Separately, the UN human rights chief said a Yemeni staff member had died in Houthi custody after being arbitrarily detained for more than two years. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk called for an independent investigation and the release of other detained personnel.
