Iran says Oman meeting postponed at Saudi Arabia's request

Speaking at his weekly press briefing, Baghaei said the meeting was scheduled to take place in Oman’s city of Salalah, where officials were expected to discuss maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei described the meeting as an opportunity provided by Iran and Oman, saying regional countries were expected to understand its importance and make use of it.
“Despite all our legitimate concerns, this was an appropriate opportunity for these countries to engage in dialogue with one another, away from interference by external parties,” he said. Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi had announced the postponement. Bahrain had already said it would not attend the gathering because of Iran’s participation. The meeting was expected to provide a platform for regional dialogue on maritime security and navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
