I did not expect to become a mother again at 41, says Mahira Khan

Mahira said she had imagined her life taking a particular direction as her son grew older and she became increasingly focused on her career, routine and personal independence. The prospect of starting motherhood all over again therefore came as an unexpected change.

She said people often make plans for their lives, but ultimately, God has His own plans.

For her, the experience has reinforced the importance of accepting uncertainty and trusting in divine will rather than trying to control every aspect of life., her first experience of motherhood came when she was 24 and was accompanied by a sense of innocence and fewer concerns about the challenges ahead.

At 41, however, she said she approaches pregnancy with greater awareness and a different perspective. The actress also acknowledged that the current pregnancy has been physically more demanding. She explained that while she remains accustomed to working, travelling and staying active, there are days when her physical condition prevents her from doing everything she would like.

Mahira said the emotional aspect is also different this time. With age comes greater awareness, she noted, along with a deeper understanding of life's uncertainties, responsibilities and vulnerabilities. Despite the challenges, she described becoming a mother again as a deeply joyful experience, while acknowledging that it has also brought moments of fear, exhaustion and vulnerability.

Mahira married actor Ali Askari in 2007, and they welcomed their son, Azlan, in September 2009. The couple later divorced in 2016. She subsequently married businessman Salim Karim in an intimate ceremony in Bhurban in October 2023, beginning a new chapter in her personal life.
