Iran will continue resistance until aggressors face 'complete regret', Pezeshkian says

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Pezeshkian said Iran had consistently opposed war and believed that avoiding conflict was essential to protecting the interests of its people and maintaining regional security.

“Iran has always opposed war and has considered the preservation of the people’s interests and regional security to lie in refraining from igniting conflict,” the Iranian president said. However, Pezeshkian made clear that Tehran would continue defending itself against what it describes as aggression.

“Just as it has boldly risen to defend against aggression up to this day, it will continue this resistance with full strength until the aggressors are brought to complete regret,” he said. He added that Iran would continue to act as a “guardian of the rights of the great Iranian nation”.

The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and continuing military confrontation involving Iran, with Tehran repeatedly maintaining that its military actions constitute defensive responses to attacks against Iranian territory and interests. Pezeshkian’s statement combines Iran’s declared opposition to initiating war with a warning that Tehran has no intention of backing down while attacks against the country continue.

Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that the country seeks regional stability but reserves the right to respond to military action against its territory, people and strategic interests. The president’s latest comments signal that Tehran remains prepared for a prolonged confrontation unless it believes the attacks against Iran have ended.
