Olivia Rodrigo reflects on Daisy Chain Fields' 'greatest joy’ and teases festival’s return

“Seeing Daisy Chain come to fruition yesterday was the greatest joy of my career,” Rodrigo wrote, recalling some of the moments that stood out to her throughout the day, including “riot grrrl mosh pits,” friendship bracelets being made on the grass and young girls watching performances from their fathers’ shoulders. Rodrigo said she and her friends stayed at the festival grounds after the crowds had left, running around and trying to process what they had witnessed. They eventually ended their night at Yoko Ono’s “Wish Tree” installation near the festival entrance.

The artwork invited festivalgoers to write down something they wished for and attach their messages to the tree. Rodrigo said she and her friends read many of the notes and were struck by how similar the wishes were.

“Almost every tag said the same thing,” she wrote. People hoped for a more peaceful world, happiness for the people they loved and the opportunity to make a difference. Those messages left Rodrigo emotional and helped her understand why Daisy Chain Fields had become so meaningful to her.

“The artwork reminded me of how we are all much more alike than we are different,” she wrote, adding that “deep down, we all just want to help each other and make the world a better place.”For Rodrigo, that sense of collective optimism was ultimately what the festival represented. “Yesterday, Daisy Chain felt like just that.

A collective hope that things can get better and a reminder of how much we really care about people at the end of the day,” she wrote.

She also thanked everyone who attended and helped bring her vision to reality, ending her message with a line that strongly suggested Daisy Chain Fields will not remain a one-time event: “Thank you to everyone who came yesterday who showed me that joy is a part of the solution.

Until next yearrrrr.”Rodrigo had already she hoped to see them again next year, making her Instagram sign-off an apparent confirmation that Daisy Chain Fields is being planned as a recurring event. The first Daisy Chain Fields brought together an all-female lineup spanning generations and genres, including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, Garbage, The Breeders and Stevie Nicks.

Rodrigo also welcomed surprise guests including Alanis Morissette and Sarah Mc. Lachlan during her headlining performance. The festival also had a major philanthropic component.

Daisy Chain Fields initially raised $10 million for organisations supporting women and girls, with Melinda French Gates matching the amount through Pivotal Ventures, bringing the total to $20 million.

Rodrigo later shared a separate message thanking French Gates, saying she was “incredibly moved” by the philanthropist’s work supporting women and girls and that her matching contribution made it possible for Daisy Chain to give $20 million to women's charities.

With the first edition combining live music, community and a significant charitable contribution, Rodrigo now appears ready to build Daisy Chain Fields into an annual tradition. Her final message to fans was simple: “Until next yearrrrr.”
