Speaking to journalists in Ireland, Trump said Iran could never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and claimed that Tehran was eager to reach a deal with Washington. He added that he would have no objection if US representatives met with Iranian officials for negotiations.
Discussing the war in Ukraine, Trump said he had also spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and urged him to stop targeting oil facilities inside Russia. The US president said Washington was obtaining large quantities of oil from Venezuela, adding that elections in the South American country would be held when conditions were favourable.

Turning to artificial intelligence, Trump stressed the importance of maintaining US leadership in the sector. He said the country or entity that takes the lead in artificial intelligence would ultimately be the one that succeeds.
His remarks come as Washington faces multiple foreign-policy challenges involving Iran, Russia, Ukraine and Venezuela.
