Mirza noted that, as a social media personality, she was able to publicly clarify whether content involving her was genuine or fabricated. For women who do not use social media, however, the situation could be considerably more difficult, she stressed, as they may not even know that their images or faces are being misused.

She also highlighted the serious consequences such fabricated videos can have for a woman’s reputation, dignity and sense of privacy, pointing to the broader risks posed by the misuse of AI-generated content. Butt echoed those concerns in a video clip shared alongside her post.

“Today, AI has become an important part of life, but its misuse without anyone’s, especially women’s, permission should not be allowed. It is very concerning. Today, it is one woman and tomorrow it can be anyone else.

Digital rights violation is a crime as well if a woman’s face is used without her consent,” she said. The MPA also outlined steps women could take if they became victims of such content. She advised them to immediately take a screenshot of the material or save the relevant link, while cautioning against circulating it further.

She urged victims to report the material to the relevant cybercrime authorities and said women in Punjab could also contact the Punjab Women Protection Authority helpline. “This is an important issue that we must tackle, as there can be no threat to women’s integrity and respect,” she concluded.

The incident has once again brought attention to the challenges posed by AI-generated and manipulated content, particularly when women’s images are used without their consent. As such technology becomes increasingly accessible, questions surrounding privacy, consent and digital safety continue to form an important part of the conversation around women’s rights online.
