Speaking at the Reuters Investment USA event in Boston, Atherton said companies funding AI infrastructure believe their large-scale investments will generate risk-adjusted returns as AI adoption grows. Analysts expect hyperscaler capital spending to exceed $1 trillion by 2027, driven mainly by costly chips and data centers.
Temasek, which holds stakes in Anthropic and OpenAI, has about $400 billion in overall holdings. It plans to increase AI investments to as much as 15% of its portfolio over the next five years, from around 6% currently.
Atherton said AI safety should be addressed by governments and technology companies.
