Punjab proposes child protection committees in government schools

Chairperson of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Punjab, Sarah Ahmed, has sent a letter to the Secretary of School Education, recommending a comprehensive awareness and protection system for students under the vision of the Punjab chief minister.
The proposal suggests forming child protection committees comprising students, teachers and parents to raise awareness about children's rights, identify protection-related concerns and ensure their timely reporting to relevant authorities.
Sarah Ahmed also recommended incorporating good touch and bad touch awareness, along with personal safety education, into the school curriculum to help children understand physical safety, personal boundaries and how to identify inappropriate behaviour. The proposed lessons would also teach children how to report such incidents promptly to trusted adults.

The letter further recommends including digital safety education in the curriculum to protect children from cyberbullying, online harassment, online grooming and digital exploitation., educating children about the safe and responsible use of social media, online privacy and digital footprints has become increasingly important.
