    High Court Judge Justice Shahid Bihar on Wednesday conducted a preliminary hearing by consolidating separate petitions filed by the Azad Kashmir Bar Association and a local citizen regarding the restoration of internet.

    During the hearing, the court issued verbal orders to the Azad Kashmir government, directing it to restore internet service within 10 days, with an exception for areas where the law and order situation is not conducive.

    Earlier, on August 31, on the orders of Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani, a notification was issued to restore internet service completely in four districts of Azad Kashmir and partially in four districts.

    Internet services were suspended on June 5 in Rawalakot due to restrictions imposed after the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) called for a long march and a sit-in.

    Later, after a long shutdown of about 48 days, internet service was partially restored for the first time, but was shut down again on July 25 after a strike and clashes in Muzaffarabad.

    Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani announced the restoration of internet service during his first media talk at the Muzaffarabad Press Club on August 31, after which DSL internet service was restored in Mirpur, Neelum and Haveli, however, the service has not been fully restored in Muzaffarabad yet.
