Govt cuts profit rates on saving certificates

Under the new rates, Defence Savings Certificates have a maturity period of 10 years. An investment of Rs100,000 will grow to Rs300,000 at maturity., an investment of Rs100,000 will amount to Rs110,000 after the first year, Rs121,000 after the second year, Rs133,000 after the third year, Rs147,000 after the fourth year and Rs163,000 after the fifth year.
The amount will rise to Rs182,000 in the sixth year, Rs204,000 in the seventh year, Rs230,000 in the eighth year and Rs262,000 in the ninth year. At the end of the 10-year maturity period, the investment will reach Rs300,000. The government has also reduced the profit rate on Behbood Savings Certificates.
Under the revised rate, an investment of Rs100,000 in a Behbood Savings Certificate will earn a monthly profit of Rs1,050, equivalent to an annual rate of 12.60%. Behbood Savings Certificates were introduced specifically to cater to the financial needs of widows and senior citizens, providing them with a regular source of income from their savings.
