Three cops booked for custodial death

“A murder case was registered on Sunday against an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and two constables of Taxila Police Station over the alleged torture and death of a man at Gangu check-post in Rawalpind…”
The case was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of the deceased's younger brother, Zahid Khan, who accused ASI Kashif and constables Sohail and Qadeer of subjecting his brother Akmal Ali Khan to brutal torture and deliberately killing him. Police officials said an investigation had been launched.
Meanwhile, video footage from inside the police check-post emerged, showing Akmal lying on a charpoy in a distressed and critical condition. The footage also shows police personnel filming visitors to the check-post, while a person could be heard urging them to give the injured man water.
Another voice appears to object, saying that water should not be given to him and that the responsibility should instead be placed on the police personnel., his brother had gone to have his vehicle refuelled with compressed natural gas (CNG) when police personnel stopped him at Gangu check-post.

Zahid stated that Akmal called a resident of Dargahi, Farrukh Amir Khan, and informed him that personnel from Taxila Police Station had detained him at the check-post. Farrukh subsequently Khan was also with him at the time.
The three men then reached the check-post, where they allegedly saw police personnel assaulting Akmal inside a room. The complainant claimed that his brother was lying on the floor and pleading with the officers to spare him.
He said they repeatedly appealed to the police personnel to release Akmal, but their requests were ignored., ASI Kashif instructed constables Sohail and Qadeer to beat Akmal, following which all three allegedly subjected him to further violence, punching and kicking him. Zahid alleged that the officers eventually let his injured brother go after the assault.
The three men took Akmal to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Taxila, where a doctor examined him and declared him dead. The complainant accused the three police personnel of abusing their authority and deliberately killing his brother.
He called for legal action, the strictest possible punishment for the accused and justice for his family. He also sought the return of his vehicle documents, which he alleged had been taken by the police.
Separately, reports suggest that the incident stemmed from a minor dispute after a truck and Akmal's vehicle came face to face on the road, blocking the passage. The dispute reportedly escalated after Akmal's vehicle was removed and the truck driver left the scene, leading to a confrontation between Akmal and the police personnel.
The incident also triggered an angry protest during which demonstrators allegedly subjected police personnel to severe violence. A police officer was injured and is receiving treatment at a hospital. Police authorities are conducting a high-level inquiry into the incident and have obtained CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the investigation.
