Safdar)November 2, 2026The meeting comes amid repeated complaints from the PTI and Imran's family over restrictions on access to the incarcerated leader, with the party demanding regular meetings with his lawyers and relatives. Imran has been incarcerated at Adiala jail since August 2023 and faces multiple corruption and terrorism-related cases following his removal from office in April 2022.
He is currently serving prison sentences in the Al-Qadir Trust case and a Toshakhana reference involving a Bulgari jewellery set. His convictions in two other Toshakhana references have been suspended pending appeals. The former prime minister also faces several cases linked to the May 9, 2023 riots, which erupted after his arrest.
The PTI has consistently rejected the allegations against him, describing the legal proceedings as politically motivated. Restrictions on meetings with Imran at Adiala jail have repeatedly become a point of contention between the opposition party and the authorities.
His family and legal team have sought greater access, particularly to discuss his legal cases and health. In September 2026, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed jail authorities to end the isolation of Imran and Bushra Bibi and ensure that both were provided facilities in accordance with prison rules.
The latest meeting followed repeated applications by Safdar, who said the limited time available prevented a comprehensive discussion of the couple's pending legal matters. Imran's continued imprisonment has remained a major source of political tension, with the PTI repeatedly demanding his release and access to medical facilities, including examination by his personal doctor.
The party's campaign over his detention also included a march towards Islamabad led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, which began in Lakki Marwat on October 4. The protest movement took place against the backdrop of heightened tensions between the PTI-led provincial administration and the federal government.
