Court documents say Thompson was recently targeted in an alleged extortion attempt involving a sex tape. His attorney has claimed that musician Brian Evans, who previously opened for Thompson during his long-running Las Vegas show, demanded $500,000 and threatened to make the video public if he was not paid.

Evans has denied threatening to release the recording. He has said the video was deleted years ago as part of an earlier settlement and expressed sympathy for Thompson amid his recent difficulties. Thompson's weekend performances at the Luxor have been cancelled following the incident.
