Heather Matarazzo reveals she could lose health insurance without more work

Matarazzo, who played Lilly Moscovitz in The Princess Diaries, made the disclosure while responding to actor Jack Haven, who recently appealed publicly for work after falling short of the earnings requirement for SAG-AFTRA health insurance. “I am literally in the same boat right now,” Matarazzo wrote on Threads.
“Lots of my fellow actors are.” She also recalled a time when actors did not have to earn a minimum amount to qualify for insurance and expressed relief that Haven had received an offer that would allow them to qualify for coverage in 2027.
Under the SAG-AFTRA health plan, members must meet an annual minimum earnings requirement or an alternative workday requirement to qualify for coverage. The minimum earnings threshold for 2026 is $28,090, while the figure is set to rise to $28,933 for 2027.

Haven, known for Atypical and I Saw the TV Glow, had shared a video asking for work after discovering they were $4,000 short of the amount needed to qualify for health insurance. They later said they had received numerous offers following the appeal.
Matarazzo's comments highlight the difficulties some actors face in maintaining union health coverage as television production has shifted towards shorter seasons and fewer episodes. Despite having an extensive acting career, including roles in Welcome to the Dollhouse, Scream 3 and Netflix's Wednesday, actors still need to meet the current eligibility requirements to maintain coverage.
