Authorities and organisers in Kelkit prepared around 1,807 gallons (6,840 litres) of baked beans on August 22, an amount equivalent to approximately 15,000 cans. The record-breaking event was jointly organised by the Kelkit Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Gümüşhane Governorship and the Kelkit Municipality.
The town is known for its local bean variety, Kelkit Şeker Fasulyesi, which is regarded as one of the region’s notable agricultural products. Organisers the achievement represented a historic milestone for Kelkit, Gümüşhane and the wider region, highlighting its agricultural heritage, local produce and collective community effort.
With the feat, Kelkit claimed the record for cooking the largest pot of baked beans, surpassing the previous record of 1,479.36 gallons. The achievement has also been celebrated locally as a source of pride and a way to promote Kelkit’s agricultural identity and locally produced beans on an international platform.
