Speaking to the media alongside Akhtar Wali Khan, Malik said the proposed legislation had been drafted with political considerations and was aimed at bringing the police force under the provincial government’s control.
He said the appointment of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officers was the responsibility of the federal government and that any attempt to establish a new practice in this regard would be unconstitutional and unlawful.
“The proposed KP Police Act has been politicised,” Malik said, adding that the legislation was intended to make the police force subordinate to the provincial government. He maintained that the provincial government could not unilaterally alter arrangements concerning the appointment and deployment of PSP officers where federal law applied.
