    The military’s media wing said the terrorists had tried to cross into Pakistan’s North Waziristan district on the night between August 31 and September 1. Security forces confronted the infiltrators and successfully thwarted the attempt after an operation that lasted around 36 hours., 15 militants belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna al-Khawarij were killed during the operation.

    “During the follow up sanitisation operation, a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed khwarij, which has further exposed the nefarious designs of Khwarij and their facilitators, seeking to disrupt peace and stability in the country,” ISPR stated.

    ISPR said the Afghan Taliban government had failed to prevent militants from using Afghan territory for such activities and accused it of failing to establish effective border management and fulfil its international responsibilities. Pakistan’s security forces, the statement said, remained determined to defend the country’s borders.

    Clearance operations were continuing in the area to eliminate other militants allegedly operating with Indian support. The military added that counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative would continue with full momentum. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the security forces for foiling the infiltration attempt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border near North Waziristan and killing 15 militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan.

    The prime minister commended the officers and personnel for displaying professionalism, patience and courage in thwarting the militants’ plans. He said the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign against terrorism would continue with full force and determination until the menace of terrorism was completely eliminated from the country.
