In a statement, Bugti said the ruling had reaffirmed that the Indus Waters Treaty remained in force and that India was bound by its legal obligations under the agreement.
He said the decision represented an important development in safeguarding Pakistan’s longstanding water rights., the IWT was not merely a bilateral agreement for Pakistan but an important international legal framework linked to the country’s water resources and national interests. He said the unanimous decision strengthened Pakistan’s position that all parties to international agreements were responsible for honouring their commitments.
Bugti added that the ruling further reinforced the principles of respect for international treaties, the supremacy of international law and adherence to agreements reached between states. He said Pakistan would continue using constitutional, legal and diplomatic means to protect its water rights.
