    Khan said the fire had started in a storeroom of the NA deputy speaker’s residence and also affected an adjoining bathroom. “The fire was brought under control shortly afterwards. However, household items stored in the affected area were destroyed,” he added.

    Incidents of fire have impacted the provincial capital many times during the current year. Earlier this week, a fire broke out in the kitchen located on the first floor adjacent to themayor's officeat the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office on MA Jinnah Road.

    Speaking to the media, Mayor Murtaza Wahab said a probe was underway to check whether the incident was arson or an accident. The fire was contained, and no loss of life or important documents was reported.

    On the same day, a fire also broke out at an old-clothes factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ) on Monday, prompting a large-scale response from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Fire Brigade, Rescue 1122, Sindh Rangers and police.     The blaze later spread to an adjacent factory, damaging it, while part of the original factory building also collapsed, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson said. In March, afire erupted at a private supermarketin the Zamzama area, but emergency teams successfully evacuated all management personnel inside the smoke-choked building, and no casualties were reported.

    Six fire tenders were deployed to contain the blaze. By. March, the port city had witnessed nearly 240 fire incidents that far into the year, leaving at least 99 people dead, several others injured, and causing financial losses worth millions of rupees.

    In January, an inferno at the Gul Plaza shopping mall killed over 70 people and injured over 20. The entire building collapsed during the incident.
