“Islamabad High Court fixes for November 5 a National Dialogue Committee plea seeking permission to meet the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi in Adiala Jail. ISLAMABAD…”

IISLAMABAD —The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed for hearing on November 5 a petition by members of the National Dialogue Committee seeking permission to meet the PTI founder in jail. Justice Umair Majeed Malik will hear the petition on Thursday.

The petition has been listed for hearing along with objections raised by the Registrar's Office. The National Dialogue Committee filed the petition through senior lawyer Faisal Farid Chaudhry. The petitioners include former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, former governor Imran Ismail, Mahmood Moulvi and Barrister Saif.

The Secretary Interior, the Home Secretary Punjab and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail have been named as respondents. The petitioners state that, as friends of the PTI founder, they are deeply concerned about his health and well-being.

The petition also raises concerns over the alleged inappropriate behaviour and mistreatment by jail authorities, and expresses grave concern over the continuously deteriorating health and well-being of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi., the PTI founder's family members, friends and close relatives have not been allowed to meet him for several months.

The ban on meetings, it says, is fuelling rumours and speculation on social media, while the lack of access is also increasing public unease and concern. The petitioners said they approached the court for the sake of political stability, the supremacy of the Constitution and national reconciliation.

They argued that the ban on meetings with the PTI founder violates Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution as well as jail rules, and that denying him visitors is also contrary to the United Nations' Nelson Mandela Rules. The petition requests that a jail meeting and interview with the PTI founder be allowed under the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978.

It asks the court to direct the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to arrange a meeting of the National Dialogue Committee delegation with the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, and to fix a suitable time for this purpose so that their health, welfare and legal protection can be assessed.
