    The Punjab Home Department said it had received highly sensitive reports from law enforcement and intelligence agencies indicating that banned terrorist organisations were allegedly planning attacks on public gatherings and rallies. Under the notification, gatherings of five or more people at public places, roads and open spaces have been prohibited.

    Processions, public meetings, sit-ins and demonstrations will also be barred during the restriction period. The carrying and display of all types of weapons at public places has also been prohibited. Also Read:Section 144 imposed across Punjab for 10 days.

    Legal action will be taken against individuals who incite or encourage people to participate in illegal gatherings, rallies or demonstrations. The Home Department clarified that the restrictions would not apply to mosques and other places of worship, funeral prayers, burials or wedding ceremonies.

    Courts, government offices and events held after obtaining formal administrative permission or a No Objection Certificate (NOC) will also remain exempt. On-duty law enforcement, intelligence and security personnel will likewise be exempt from the restrictions.

    The department said protecting the lives and property of citizens remained the government’s top priority, adding that the measures aim to prevent potential incidents and maintain peace across Punjab.
