UN acknowledges Pakistan's contributions for global peace and security

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and stressed the central role of the United Nations in promoting international peace and development. The prime minister also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and appreciated Guterres’ leadership and efforts for the advancement of humanity and adherence to the UN Charter.
The two leaders discussed key regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East. Shehbaz emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to reduce regional tensions and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability.
The prime minister also reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. During the meeting, Shehbaz also raised concerns over the growing trend of Islamophobia, particularly incidents in Pakistan’s neighbouring region, and called for effective international measures to counter the phenomenon.

The two leaders also discussed developments in Afghanistan and what Pakistan described as an increase in terrorism originating from Afghan soil. Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s role and voice at the United Nations and acknowledged its contributions towards international peace and security.
He also praised Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at resolving conflicts peacefully and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region. The UN chief also paid tribute to Pakistan’s contributions and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and for global peace.
The United Nations has previously highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing role in peacekeeping, with Pakistani personnel serving in multiple UN missions around the world.
