IISLAMABAD —The federal government has decided to sell 90 per cent of Pakistan's locally produced liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) through a transparent auction system in a move aimed at ensuring fair distribution and addressing public concerns over availability and pricing. The decision was taken at the first meeting of a committee established to oversee transparent LPG auctions.
The meeting was chaired by the petroleum secretary. Under the proposed mechanism, each eligible company will be allowed to obtain a maximum of 20 metric tonnes of LPG per day through the auction process. All eligible companies will be provided equal opportunities to participate.
The remaining 10 per cent of local LPG production will be reserved for state-owned marketing companies to meet demand in remote and underserved areas. Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said addressing public concerns regarding LPG availability and unfair pricing remained a government priority.

He said the new auction mechanism would help ensure equitable distribution, strengthen the supply chain and contribute to national energy security. The government expects the revised mechanism to introduce greater transparency into the LPG marketing system and improve access to locally produced supplies.
LPG is an important alternative fuel in Pakistan, particularly in areas where natural gas infrastructure is unavailable or inadequate. Ensuring reliable supplies and fair pricing is therefore important for households and businesses across the country.
