Barrister Gohar opposes controversial legislation for creation of new provinces

He also stressed the need for meetings with Allama Raja Nasir and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, saying Achakzai had written a letter to the prime minister regarding the Election Commission matter and that the letter should be taken notice of. He said negotiations had previously remained limited to offers and called for progress on the issue.

Barrister Gohar warned that if decisions were taken unilaterally, it could lead to a strong public reaction. The PTI chairman also thanked the people of Sindh for warmly welcoming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

He said the reception given to the KP chief minister reflected that the people did not want the status quo. On terrorism, Barrister Gohar said there should be neither political point-scoring nor political statements on the issue.

He claimed that India and RAW had been found behind terrorism in Pakistan and called for a serious approach by the country’s political leadership. He said civilians and security forces were continuing to make sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Regarding the creation of new provinces, Barrister Gohar said the matter was serious and should be debated. He maintained that controversial legislation should not be introduced for the creation of provinces. He said dividing Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan without the consent of elected representatives or the people would create complications.

He called for consultation similar to the process followed for the 18th Amendment, adding that a rushed decision on the creation of new provinces would be against the unity of the federation.
