“Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb met a Dutch business delegation, led by the Founders Carbon Network (FCN) and accompanied by the Netherlands Ambassador Robert-Jan Siegert. The minister …”

The minister emphasised the importance of strengthening business-to-business linkages, fostering mutual understanding and deepening bilateral economic cooperation. He noted that sustained engagement between the business communities of Pakistan and the Netherlands would help identify commercially viable investment opportunities, develop partnerships and build investor confidence.

Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan's improving macroeconomic outlook and stressed the need for translating the gains of stabilisation into productive investment, capital formation, export expansion and private-sector-led growth. He emphasised that the next phase of Pakistan's economic development must be increasingly export-oriented, productivity-driven and employment-generating, supported by structural reforms and greater mobilisation of private capital.

Outlining the government's economic priorities, the finance minister underscored the need to consolidate macroeconomic stability and strengthen fiscal and external resilience; transition towards sustainable, inclusive and responsible growth; maintain momentum on implementation-focused structural reforms; shift from aid dependence towards trade and investment; broaden access to finance for SMEs, agriculture, housing and underserved communities; and position Pakistan to benefit from the "New Economy" through digitalisation and emerging technologies.

Referring to the strengthening external position, the minister noted that foreign exchange reserves had reached a historic high of $21.4 billion, providing over three months of import cover. He emphasised that sustaining these gains and building resilience against external shocks remained essential to reinforcing investor confidence and creating a durable foundation for economic growth.

Aurangzeb identified rapid population growth and climate change as two existential challenges facing Pakistan, underscoring their implications for economic sustainability, human development and long-term resilience. He called for addressing these challenges through sustained policy attention and coordinated reforms.

Highlighting opportunities for closer Pakistan-Netherlands economic cooperation, the minister pointed to the potential for Dutch expertise, technology and investment to complement Pakistan's development priorities across key sectors. He identified public-private partnerships as an important avenue for mobilising private capital, leveraging specialised expertise and translating investment interest into commercially viable projects.

Adviser to the prime minister on privatisation, who was present in the meeting, reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding private-sector participation through privatisation and public-private partnerships. He noted that these initiatives were aimed at improving efficiency, attracting investment and creating greater opportunities for private enterprises across commercial activities.

Members of the Dutch delegation shared their perspectives on Pakistan's business environment and prospects for expanded bilateral cooperation. The discussions highlighted opportunities to strengthen B2B engagement, identify areas of mutual interest and develop commercially viable partnerships between Pakistani and Dutch enterprises.
