“The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has proposed an exchange of trade delegations, single-country exhibitions in both countries and business outlets in each other's markets to expand Pa…”

Rear Admiral (retd) Fred Senevirathne, Sri Lanka's high commissioner to Pakistan, between the two countries should be translated into increased commercial engagement, investment and business partnerships, and invited Pakistani businessmen to explore opportunities in Sri Lanka. He stressed that economic engagement should be strengthened so that friendly relations produced greater benefits for both business communities.

LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar said cordial and longstanding relations provided a strong foundation for expanding bilateral trade, but that both countries needed to make greater efforts to convert those ties into practical business opportunities.

He proposed the delegation exchange to help businessmen understand each other's markets, identify partners and explore new avenues of cooperation, alongside single-country exhibitions in Pakistan and Sri Lanka to showcase products, services and investment opportunities and enable companies to establish direct contacts.

Asghar highlighted Lahore's importance as a business and commercial centre and a significant contributor to Pakistan's exports, saying stronger engagement with Sri Lankan businesses could open new avenues for Pakistani exporters and investors while giving Sri Lankan companies opportunities in the Pakistani market.

He stressed the need to promote business-to-business contacts and strengthen chamber-to-chamber relations, saying direct interaction could help identify areas of mutual interest and develop lasting commercial partnerships. He also encouraged businessmen to explore establishing outlets in each other's markets, which he said would improve market access and strengthen commercial presence.

Sustained interaction, regular exchanges, exhibitions and intra-chamber cooperation could play a meaningful role in expanding bilateral trade, he said, and closer coordination between the chambers would help businesses identify practical opportunities and build stronger economic connections.
